enemies and personal wars
Just back from Turku, and having travelled by bus in Finland during some everlasting hours, during which I had a lot of glass to think, I decided to write some lines about my new challenge: I am trying to quit smoking. Yes, and this reminds me of past times, when those who dared to underestimate my creations where not available to distinguish between poor and brilliant, simplicity and complexity, the little needle hanging from the neck...the neck that never moved from the pillow.
Smoking is fun, stress relieving and for many people a pleasure. I am with them but also against them. Which means I do not know where I am. And that is the problem, if talking about smoking you must know where you are, the same as when talking about writing. And smoking means smoking; a cigarette is smoking, a joint is smoking and smoke coming into your lungs is smoking…
And I hate people who say, “I just smoke when I drink” or “just after lunch” “I just smoke joints, no tobacco” or the mythical “Only in the weekends”. And do not miss this one, “I smoke but I can control the amount of cigarettes I smoke”. Are you a superman/woman?
I used to be one. I used all those sentences more than once in the last years and I now realised how meaningless they are. Smoking is a submission to an external power; nobody can have a control over an external power. It is like an invasion, nicotine comes and with “her” new laws, habits and behaviour rules. Our body, our nerves and system suddenly come under control, the new boss will lead our actions and thoughts. And that is how it works, always considering that we loose our freedom and our health, those that we inherited and that make us people, luckily or unluckily.
But, how to fight against such an enemy, an enemy like Al-qaeda, that nobody can see and that hides behind the skins of apparently nice people? Because these mother fuckers, the social smokers never think what they say. They invite you to smoke, “come along” they say. And this is a key element if you want to quit, never listen to those bastards and try to stay away from them, just as I am trying to do right now. And remember, they are everywhere.
We need support to quit and live a better live, help us in our personal war against nicotine, and remember, respect non-smokers, smoking is your personal decision and your personal suicide option.
